LightSound device for eclipse

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Visually impaired individuals will have the opportunity to experience the upcoming eclipse through a special device.

This once-in-a-lifetime experience is made possible with a partnership with Harvard University, Warren Audio, the Perry County Eclipse Task Force and the Perryville Fire Department.

This special device uses LightSound technology which was developed at Harvard.

The device is a solar sonification prototype for the 2017 North America solar eclipse which will allow people to hear the eclipse through speakers by converting light intensity to sound. The tone changes as the moon moves in front of the sun.

The Hear The Eclipse event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Perryville Fire Station 2 at 650 N. Perryville Boulevard in Perryville.

The event is hosted by the Perryville Fire Department, Perry County Heritage Tourism, Perry County Eclipse Task Force, Perry County School District 32 and Warren Audio and Visual, made possible through researchers from Harvard University.
